Plant-health emergencies

Plant-health emergencies

Exotic insects and pathogens can spread epidemically and put crops, nurseries and public greenery in crisis. We find them early, with a molecular detection dog, before the spread gets out of control.

A plant-health emergency arises when a harmful organism develops epidemically, causing significant damage. For quarantine organisms, EU law (Reg. (EU) 2016/2031) and national law (Legislative Decree 19/2021) require surveillance, demarcated zones and eradication or containment measures, managed by the National Plant Protection Service and the regional services.

Early interception is decisive: finding an outbreak while it is still small can dramatically cut eradication costs. This is where the molecular detection dog's scent work offers an operational advantage.
